Okay, you know times are bad for your company, and even more so your department when your work holiday party invitation comes as a meeting request from your not so fabulous VP… Subject: Take a quick break! Location: Conference Rm 615. Time: 4:15 to 4:30. “What is this”, I ask my co-worker. “Puh-lease don’t tell me this is our holiday party.”
Well, yup, it sure was. Sad sad sad. A stale old conference room, not a stitch of holiday décor, and my VP + her assistant sitting in the room (not even smiling) is what we, my fellow co-workers and I, see as we all walk in. “Have a drink! Have a cupcake!” they say. Really? I would rather be working right now so that I can get out of here on time. Not eating a crummy cupcake and drinking cheap champagne out of a plastic Dixie up for 15 minutes. Besides, get me drinking in the office and I probably won’t stop. So I opt to try the cupcake. Gross. Chat it up with my coworker that I actually enjoy speaking to, and leave 5 minutes later. Esh! I know times are tough and all but I would rather have nothing at all than a forced celebration such as what I had just experienced. Of course, I worked late that night. Come 9:00 pm I was wishing I had stashed a bottle of that champagne in my desk! Finally, I stumbled out of my Times Square office building, bleary eyed just after 10:00 pm. Done! Two full weeks of vacation now ahead. I can’t wait!

So, this past Sunday, I was lucky enough to receive a last minute invite to see David Grey with a good friend of mine. Sundays are typically off limits for me when it comes to hanging out due to my insane Monday mornings (see my early post “Mondays a la Violet“ ) but I told myself I would just have to make this work. I love David Grey’s romantic sweet sound and lyrics. This was one event I couldn’t miss out on due to my old Monday insanity. Anyway, just as my friend had promised, his sound was amazing live… so much more powerful than his recorded music. If you are in love, you will fall harder. If you aren’t in love, your soul will seek love that much more. Wow.
If any of you have the chance to see him live, I definitely recommend it… no excuses!

Violet – in case you ever get the itch for dating… let me remind you how much it can suck. I was more nervous for this date than any of the others I had been on in the past few months… even my first date post breakup! Not gonna lie… I had to have a glass of wine while getting ready. Not something I typically do, especially without dinner in my stomach, but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do!
Anyway, w/ a glass of wine flowing through my bloodstream, I’m feeling much better and officially ready for this date. Jump in the cab and off to the west village where I am meeting my man… well not “my” man… not yet anyway. J I “gracefully” climb out of the cab on west 10th and 7th avenue, just a few blocks away from the restaurant where we are meeting. I love a little walking time to fix the outfit, etc. before the main entrance. Skirt shifted, hair fluffed, and I’m in.
So the date was… simply wonderful. Laughing, flirting, reminiscing (about the night we met)… oh, and the food was amazing too. Classic, simple, perfect. After dinner we went for dessert and a few more drinks at a nearby wine bar. So cozy and charming! We stayed there for another couple of hours (whew!) and talked the night away. I finally had to pull myself away from him come 1:00 am, much to his dismay, I’m sure. : ) This was another “school” night and tomorrow was a big day at the office anyway. Well, truth be told, always better to leave them wanting more. Wink wink.
Ladies, this one has got me good. I’m all smiles as I write!
So, after two torturous days of waiting for any sort of life in my phone via my newfound number one crush, Eric, I finally get a real phone call from him. Not a text message, a phone call! I was so shocked when I saw his name in my phone that I couldn’t even pick it up. Backwards, I know, but he caught me off guard.

It's all about the vocal confidence...
I need to be in the zone for the first conversation sans cocktails / dark lounge setting! So, I let it go to voicemail, listened to the voicemail (good message), wait an hour or so, then make the call. Success! He answered and we had that perfect first phone conversation including a date confirmation and all. Lovely! The date has been set. I officially have two days to freak out about what I’m going to wear, the nails, the hair, etc. I’m really nervous about this one… but that’s a good sign. It means I really like him. Too much confidence is a sign that he never really had me in the first place.
Date recap as soon as I’m home… It’s Thursday night!

So while home for Thanksgiving, I treated myself to a full on facial. This is something I do not typically spend my hard earned money on but I decided that the reduced Midwestern prices made it okay for the monthly budget. While there, I spoke to the esthetician about my skin issues and she asked about my exfoliation routine. After explaining to her that I do have this drug store exfoliation scrub that I use but it doesn’t really seem to do anything other than leave a film of something on my face. Fabulous. She recommended that I bite the bullet and spend a little more money on something that will keep my skin clear and bacteria free as exfoliation is key! Here are a couple of products she recommended… a mega splurge and a product a little more on the budget friendly side. Either way, I recommend picking one up for the sake of the face!
Hi ladies! Here are some of my favorite looks I’m using as inspiration for the holiday parties scheduled in for the next few weeks. More to come… Enjoy!

Yes, a bit cheesy but I couldn’t resist buying Marc Jacob’s parfum named Lola. Everything about this parfum I adore. The scent’s top note is fuchsia peony, and the bottle, which is perched on my white vanity mirror desk, is so beautiful to look at!
