Exfoliate Ladies, Exfoliate!

So while home for Thanksgiving, I treated myself to a full on facial.  This is something I do not typically spend my hard earned money on but I decided that the reduced Midwestern prices made it okay for the monthly budget.  While there, I spoke to the esthetician about my skin issues and she asked about my exfoliation routine.  After explaining to her that I do have this drug store exfoliation scrub that I use but it doesn’t really seem to do anything other than leave a film of something on my face.  Fabulous.  She recommended that I bite the bullet and spend a little more money on something that will keep my skin clear and bacteria free as exfoliation is key!  Here are a couple of products she recommended… a mega splurge and a product a little more on the budget friendly side.  Either way, I recommend picking one up for the sake of the face!

Lola Loves Lola Parfum

3.4 oz, $85

3.4 oz, $85

Yes, a bit cheesy but I couldn’t resist buying Marc Jacob’s parfum named Lola.  Everything about this parfum I adore.  The scent’s top note is fuchsia peony, and the bottle, which is perched on my white vanity mirror desk, is so beautiful to look at!

V&L’s Travel Essential List

The holidays are quickly approaching, which means lots of potential airport time in your near future.  When flying Lola and I like to have a few specific items on hand to make the typically unpleasant experience just a little bit more comfortable.  Read on for our top travel picks!

  1. Cleansing Towelettes – This simple little product is perfect for cleaning your face mid-flight… or mid – airport waiting time.  Love that gross airport / airplane air.
  2. L’Occitane’s Lavender Hand Cream and their Shea Butter Nail & Cuticle Cream are both essential to take care of your hands when traveling during those cold winter months.  Maintain the moisture mid-flight with these two must-have travel friendly items!
  3. Antibacterial Lotion –  anti all variations of the flu… enough said.
  4. Lip Balm – you know what your favorite is… find one with a hint of color so you step off that flight looking fabulous! My number one pick it Burt’s Bees Honey Lip Balm.
  5. Cozy Socks or slippers – fuzzy, warm, comfortable.  Kick off your shoes and slip these on once airborne for a more comfortable flight!
  6. Cozy Wrap / Open Front Cardigan – wrap yourself up and get ready for some solid sleep in a luxe cozy wrap cardigan!  My current Fav – a Long Sleeve Lounge Cardigan from LOFT!
  7. Other necessities – water (keep yourself hydrated!), toothbrush, toothpaste…

Safe Travels to All!

Oh So Sexy

Luv this stuff!

Luv this stuff!

When living in New York City, you tend to have a lot of house guests – friends, friends of friends, roommates friends… always crashing at your place while they get a long weekend in the city.  In doing so, I tend to offer up any of the products in the shower for their use – no need to pack those toiletries and cramming them into those little baggies – so annoying!  Anyway, it has happened time and time again… my visiting girlfriends use my Victoria’s Secret shampoo and conditioner (and styling products) and then rave all day long as the spicy, perfume like scent of the So Sexy products stay with them.  Aside from the yummy scent, the products work amazing well!  Keep an eye out for those lovely VS sales and grab those oh So Sexy products up! Enjoy!

Free Booze in NYC

When Violet & I moved to NYC we both lived on a shoe string budget.  Basically, our paychecks mostly went to paying the rent and the bills.  Any leftover money would go to an outfit and “going out”.  A website that would have been our saving grace back in the day is called myopenbar.com which they claim is your guide to free booze.  Genius. Check them out if you live in or are visiting NYC or Chicaco.

Prime That Face

high def primertwo faced eyeshadow primer

Quite often Violet and I are at work by 9 am or earlier and then head out to meet up with friends or attend an event right after work.  That makeup applied to our face in the early morning has to last us (with a quick refreshener in the work bathroom… love the lighting…always a great morale booster) 12+ hours.   To help accomplish this are my beauty product secrets that I want to share with you!  I will use Make Up For Ever HD (high definition) Microperfecting Primer that comes in seven shades + Two Faced eyeshadow primer.   These primers help keep my makeup intact not to mention I end up saving money on makeup because I don’t have to keep on re-applying.  The primers also help intensify the color of my makeup, especially Two Faced eyeshadow primer helps my eyeshadow color pop!

I hope my beauty routine helps you out !

Luv, Lola

The Beauty of the High Line

Work is madness, it’s a perfect day outside (82 degrees, sunny with blue skies, gentle breeze), and I’ve been running around the office in my heels (ouch, my feet are killing me!) rolling clothing racks and carrying heavy presentation boards to different meetings. Fun times.  My saving grace is enjoying my lunch on the High Line, which partially opened this past Summer, and looking at the sail boats drifting down the Hudson River.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the High Line, it was a set of elevated railroad tracks built in the 1930’s on the West Side of Manhattan which was completely industrialized.  Since 1980, the railroad tracks had not been used and they were set to be demolished, however a not-for-profit group was organized to stop the destruction and raised support to transform the space into an elevated park.  What a genius idea because the city is seriously lacking green spaces and people are desperate for their own slice of “nature”.   The initial part of the park is open which runs from Gansevoort Street to 20th Street, with the second part from 20th Street to 30th Street opening up next year.

There is lucious greenery and landscaping, with built-in wooden benches and chaises along the High Line.  When it’s super hot outside, you can cool off with a gelato delight from a vendor selling various flavors.  It’s refreshing to be able to walk in the city and enjoy the outdoors and city views without having to stop at every intersection or see my life flash before my eyes as I have to jump out of the way from a speeding taxi.  It is simply amazing and a wonderful addition to my beloved city!

My New Favorite Skincare Line

I recently stumbled upon this amazing little brand of skincare, Boscia, after some free sample had made their way into a gift bag I grabbed from a recent event… love that free garb!  Boscia boasts of preservative free antioxidant packed products.  Now antioxidants or not, this stuff is amazing, right down to the oh so natural scent.  If you are in the market new cleanser, lotion, or potion, I recommend you give Boscia a try… I love love love it!
